How often do clients come to you complaining of stress and stress-related ailments? According to The American Institute of Stress, 77% of people experience stress that affects their physical health while 73% of people have stress that impacts their mental health, and 48% of people have trouble sleeping because of stress. These ailments are even more prevalent for Black, indigenous, and people of color, single parents, and family caretakers. What can we as massage therapists do to help our clients with these afflictions? We know that massage is an excellent way to manage and relieve stress. But how about incorporating aromatherapy into massage sessions for an even more powerful and calming effect on the body and mind? Studies show that utilizing certain essential oils during massage significantly decreases cortisol levels - even more so than massage alone. The Mind Body Connection: Aromatherapy, Massage, and Stress is a course designed to explore the marriage between aromatherapy and massage when it comes to helping our clients manage stress and stress-related ailments. Explore how essential oils affect the nervous, digestive, and endocrine systems and which EOs will have the most sedative effects when utilized during massage. Students will also learn how to identify essential oils that are appropriate for therapeutic use in the treatment room and how to safely handle, store, and incorporate aromatherapy into their massage practices.
