This live interactive course is designed for therapists, sports and healthcare providers that work with athletes, to enhance their understanding of the psychological and emotional challenges athletes face during injury and recovery. This presentation highlights how injuries impact an athlete's mental health, often leading to fear of reinjury, loss of identity, or decreased motivation. By focusing on individualized assessments, practitioners can address these challenges while tailoring rehabilitation plans that consider each athlete’s unique mental and emotional needs. Attendees will learn the integration of psychological skills, such as goal setting, relaxation techniques, visualization, and guided imagery, to support athletes' mental recovery alongside physical rehabilitation. This course provides a comprehensive approach to creating effective return-to-play protocols, ensuring athletes are both physically prepared and mentally confident during and before returning to sport. Practical strategies to foster a positive recovery environment and prevent future injuries will also be discussed, with a focus on promoting overall athlete wellness. Attendees will leave with actionable tools to support holistic recovery and long-term success for their athletic patients as well as gain valuable insight to each individual athlete. This presentation combines evidence-based practices and real-world applications, empowering attendees to optimize outcomes for injured athletes.

  • Evaluate the mental and emotional state of injured athletes, considering their unique motivations, personality traits, and goals, to create patient-centered rehabilitation plans
  • Apply evidence-based psychological techniques—such as guided imagery, visualization, goal setting, and relaxation training—into treatment plans to enhance mental recovery and improve therapy outcomes throughout recovery.
  • Design individualized protocols for safely transitioning athletes back to play, emphasizing physical readiness and psychological resilience while minimizing reinjury risks.
  • Educate athletes on injury prevention strategies, incorporating training adjustments, psychological preparedness, and overall wellness approaches to reduce future injury risks.

Live event Instructor(s)

  • Dr. Meghan Braun, PT, DPT, MTC, CSCS, HSP

    Dr. Meghan Braun is a board certified and licensed Physical Therapist in the state of Florida, specializing in sports performance and rehabilitation, injury prevention, return to play, concussion management, orthopedics, strength and conditioning, and youth movement development. She is certified in Manual Therapy (MTC), utilizing hands-on techniques including joint and soft tissue mobilization for the spine and extremities, and is also an Emergency Medical Responder, Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) promoting athletic and movement development, and a Hesch Certified Sacroiliac Practitioner (HSP).

    Dr. Braun's philosophy is focused on applying treatment beyond the symptoms; by identifying the root cause of pain or discomfort, correcting movement discrepancies, and providing appropriate treatment plans with emphasis on patient education to Restore, Develop, and Strengthen functional mobility.

    Dr. Braun received her Doctorate in Physical Therapy from the University of St. Augustine, FL, studying under Dr. Stanley Paris. She is also an active member of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA), the APTA Sports Physical Therapy section, the National Strength and Conditioning Association, and the US Lacrosse Association. Prior to acquiring her DPT, she completed her BA in Psychology at The University of Dallas in Irving, TX. While attending undergraduate school she played NCAA lacrosse and basketball and continues her passion of playing and coaching sports within the North Florida area and abroad.
