About this live event

Research about massage therapy is not the abstract exercise that you might think! The best research being conducted today uses professional therapists doing work in real-life settings so that results reflect what truly happens in a successful massage session or series. This produces results that can make you a better and more successful therapist, but only if you know how to access the right studies. This class will barely scratch the surface of what research can mean to you, but it will cover some current massage therapy research findings and events; some basic information on how to find the research you want, and apply it to your practice; and finally we will discuss what you can do in the research world: writing case reports that can benefit all your colleagues.

  • Ruth Werner, BCTMB

    Ruth Werner, BCTMB is an award-winning educator, writer, and former massage therapist with a passionate interest in massage therapy research and the role of bodywork for people who live with health challenges. Her groundbreaking textbook, A Massage Therapist’s Guide to Pathology was first published in 1998, and is now in its 7th edition, published by Books of Discovery.

    Ruth is a columnist for Massage and Bodywork magazine, and she teaches continuing education workshops in research, ethics, and pathology both live and virtually all over the world. She also does a popular podcast, “I Have a Client Who… Pathology Conversations with Ruth Werner”, available wherever you get your podcasts.

    Ruth was proud to serve the Massage Therapy Foundation as a Trustee from 2007 to 2017, and as President of the Foundation from 2010-2014.

    Ruth is an Approved Provider with the National Certifying Board of Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (Provider # 282893-00) and Board Certified in Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (# 008704-00).

CE Process Info

Each professional is responsible for the individual requirements as stipulated by his/her licensing agency. Please contact your individual licensing board/regulatory agency to review continuing education requirements for licensure renewal. Please note: You must attend "live" (in real-time) for the duration of the training to earn CE credits.

Before the event, you will receive an email from CE-Go with access to the virtual event. After the event, you will receive access to your evaluation and continuing education certificate via a personalized "attendee dashboard" link, hosted on the CE-Go website. This link and access to the virtual event will be sent to the email account you used to register for the event.

    The Michigan Board of Massage Therapy accepts continuing education programs if approved by the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork (NCBTMB). This continuing education activity is approved for the Michigan Board of Massage Therapy based on the approval by the NCBTMB approval (provider #1000939).

  • Florida Board of Massage Therapy (FLBMT)

    The Florida Board of Massage Therapy accepts continuing education programs if approved by the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork (NCBTMB). This continuing education activity is approved for the Florida Board of Massage Therapy based on the approval by the NCBTMB approval (provider #1000939). Category:

  • New Jersey Board of Massage and Bodywork Therapy (NJMBT)

    The New Jersey Board of Massage and Bodywork Therapy accepts continuing education programs if approved by the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork (NCBTMB). This continuing education activity is approved for the New Jersey Board of Massage and Bodywork Therapy based on the approval by the NCBTMB approval (provider #1000939)

  • Washington Board of Massage Therapy (WABMT)

    The Washington Board of Massage Therapy does not approve or preapprove continuing education activities. Licensees are responsible for choosing CE that meets requirements as per requirements outlined in WAC 246-830-475.

1. This virtual event will be hosted via Zoom Webinar, and you may be prompted to download or upgrade your Zoom app if using a mobile device. A strong WiFi connection will be required for best quality.


2. We recommend clicking your "Join Webinar" button early and checking that your speakers are on before the event begins. Please do not worry about being seen or heard! Attendee video feeds and mics are turned off by default when entering a webinar. You will be able to ask questions via the Q&A feature.
