Influencing Feelings and Emotions in Therapy: The Neurobiology of the Insula

About this live event

There is so much yet to learn about the Insula and its impact in therapy and emotional healing. The insula is considered the “fifth lobe” of the human brain due to its functions and roles regarding sensorimotor processing, emotional processing (including empathy and risky decision-making), and cognitive functions. The potential involvement the insula has in anxiety, autism, schizophrenia, and addiction will be explored. This program addresses this content and what the participants learn will benefit them in their daily contact with patients and the care patients receive.

Learning Objectives

  • Describe the underlying neurobiological processes and neurophysiological functions that are impacted with the insula’s role.
  • Develop strategies to use with your clients to help improve interoception, somatosensory processing and cognitive functions.
  • Implement methods for teaching clients how to influence emotional response, integrate sensory information, and modulate decision-making, attention and memory.

    Dr. Janene Donarski, PhD, LP, CCATP, ECDCS is practicing as a Licensed Psychologist specializing in Neuropsychology. She is the prior founder and owner of Family Therapy & Development Centers, Inc. Dr. Donarski has specialized training in anxiety and trauma treatment, working with individuals with disabilities (e.g., vision deficits and cancer care), Veterans and Military families, dementia care, and holds certifications as a Certified Clinical Anxiety Treatment Professional and Evergreen Certified Dementia Care Specialist. Dr. Donarski has been engaged for over 10 years as a professional speaker and presenter all over the country training mental health and medical specialists in aspects of mental health care. She is the published author of “Anxiety & Trauma Recovery Book: Using a Neuroscience-Informed Treatment Response to Healing”.
