Understanding Pure O: Navigating Adolescent Worry

CE Hours 1.5

About this course

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is a debilitating mental health condition that affects millions of individuals worldwide. In recent years, there has been growing recognition of a specific subtype known as Purely Obsessional OCD, which predominantly involves covert and distressing obsessions without outwardly visible compulsions. Adolescents, in particular, are vulnerable to the unique challenges posed by this form of OCD, as it often remains unnoticed and untreated. This presentation aims to shed light on Purely Obsessional OCD in adolescents, with the objective of increasing awareness and understanding among educators, parents, and mental health professionals. We will delve into the prevalence of this condition in the adolescent population, the subtle but significant symptoms that may manifest, and the profound impact it can have on their daily functioning. Furthermore, the presentation will address the diagnostic challenges associated with identifying Purely Obsessional OCD in adolescents. We will also explore evidence-based treatment approaches, providing insight into how these interventions can effectively manage this condition. By the end of this presentation, the audience will be better equipped to recognize the signs of Purely Obsessional OCD in adolescents and understand the crucial role they can play in facilitating diagnosis and treatment, ultimately improving the well-being of those affected by this challenging condition.
