The Mind Body Connection: Aromatherapy, Pain Reduction, and Massage

CE Hours 3

About this course

Aromatherapy and massage are a powerful combination when it comes to the treatment of pain. The Mind Body Connection: Aromatherapy, Pain, and Massage is a course designed to introduce aromatherapy and the use of essential oils to licensed massage therapists as they work with clients suffering with pain related to repetitive stress disorder, adhesions, and nerve pain. This course will examine how essential oils affect the body and mind as well as the research demonstrating which essential oils have been shown to reduce pain by blocking neurotransmitters. Students will learn how to identify essential oils that are appropriate for therapeutic use in the treatment room and how to safely handle, store, and incorporate aromatherapy into their massage practices.

Learning Objectives

  • Understand how essential oils affect the brain and nervous, integumentary, and musculoskeletal systems.
  • List the contraindications for utilizing aromatherapy during massage.
